second term examination THE SECOND EXAM
First year classes/literary stream 2013
Time: 2 hours
Part one: Reading and Interpreting (15pts):
Read the text carefully then do the activities
Are the British TV addicts?
British people watch TV almost twice as much as the Dutch. In fact, the British are the biggest TV fans in Europe, spending four and a quarter hours in front of their sets each day, as compared to three and three quarter hours for the French and less than three hours for the Germans.
The differences are difficult to explain. For example, the Belgians and the Dutch both have a high number of channels (26 and 23), and yet their viewing time is very different. Favourite programmes are also extremely varied - the British love serials, the Italians are sports fans, the French are mad about films, while the Germans and the Spanish like all kinds of programmes, including plays.
